NEW FILM INDUSTRY PODCAST ...

January 2018 | Vicki Brown and Mike Powell

Vicki Brown and Mike Powell, both veterans of the film industry, decided to launch Roll Credits in 2017; a podcast which shines a light on some of the sectors less discussed roles.

We’ve all experienced sitting in a cinema and seeing the hundreds of names fly past in a film’s end credits, but most of us have no idea what these roles mean. With limited formal training schemes or a clear path to employment for many of these positions, the film industry can seem like a daunting business to get into and we’ve all heard how challenging it can be to get that first “foot in the door” opportunity.

That is why we decided to create the Roll Credits podcast. Our aim is to showcase the wide variety of roles in the film industry, covering the whole landscape from development and production through to exhibition, above the line and below it. We want to highlight the various careers available in this exciting industry byshowcasing the numerous roles as well as seeking advice on how to get onto the
career ladder.

With Roll Credits, our desire is to help promote diversity within the film industry by examining as wide a variety of industry roles as possible through interviews with individuals who are currently, or have recently been, working in these positions. We focus on interviewing people that are often under-represented such as women, people of colour and those from the LGBTQ community. We want to encourage and inspire everyone to make the industry a more diverse and inclusive place.

Through conversational interviews, we explore how these individuals have established and maintained their career in these roles, what the role typically entails, their experiences and any advice they have for new entrants. So far in season one, we’ve covered a variety of roles including gaffer, line
producer and acquisitions executive. We’re always on the lookout for interviewees and suggestions of which roles people are interested in hearing about.

Please feel free to get in touch with us via our Twitter handle@rollcreditspod or email us at rollcreditspod@gmail.com. You can find our episodes on Apple Podcasts, SoundCloud and Stitcher.
