January 2018 | Georgie McGahey

My First Job in Film and the National Film & Television School teamed up on the 27th January to host the Up and Running: Film Industry Induction.

For members of MFJF who are at stage one or two of their careers, the day was designed to offer an insight into the workings of a feature film, delivered by industry practitioners. Not only did the speakers provide an overview, but they also detailed how to gain a foothold in their respective departments.  The day was focused on production departments, one of the most popular career paths for new entrants to the industry.

During the day, attendees had the opportunity to ask questions of the speakers, who included Producer Pete Smyth, 1st AD Richard Lingard, Production Manager Bex Hopkins, Production Sound Mixer Simon Clarke and Script Supervisor Karen Savage. The relaxed atmosphere of the day also offered some valuable networking opportunities over tea, coffee and lunch. With a tour of the NFTS and screening of Lady McBeth offered at the end of the day, we hope everyone went home with a better understanding of the industry and the departments they wish to enter.
